Jérôme Legrand aka Roy G Sfeir

"I paint for fun, out of necessity, because that's what I do best.

The subject does not exist, it is my own breathing, and my mood that dictate the breath, the rhythm, the tone.

I would like to compare my work to music, it carries away, it enchants. Moments of tension, beaches of sweetness ...

I work mainly with water, water is life, it is our origins, it is childhood, it is also pleasure. Water dries quickly, and the color associated with water finds thousands of forms to exist and flourish.

I superimpose rapid layers on the surface of the canvas, sometimes flat (there the water is fixed as if frozen, each stain exists according to the neighboring stains, according to its pigment and liquid content) sometimes vertically on the easel (the water flowing rapidly downwards creating superb accidents or catastrophic failures). Each session is a new adventure!

My work is very physical, I take the canvas, turn it over to catch the drips of colors, before it dries up… I put it back straight and start again dozens of times.

The shapes and colors fall into place with the first sprays, sometimes, or are slow to decide, it is only with the tenth or fifteenth coat of paint that something sane takes shape. "
